FC Berlin 10 vs 7 Detroit City FC: Report

Gabriel Almada28 Dec 2025 - 18:35

FC Berlin adds another shining chapter to its history, delivering a landmark performance against one of the most respected clubs in the United States.

FC Berlin wrote one of the most memorable chapters in club history last night, stunning MASL-W powerhouse Detroit City FC with a thrilling 10–7 victory in a game that had everything: adversity, resilience, elite performances, and an unforgettable final act.

The night did not begin kindly for the hosts. Detroit City FC struck late in the first period to open the scoring and quickly took full control of the match, stretching their lead to four goals while putting on a masterclass in arena soccer. Megan Verant looked virtually unstoppable, and every DCFC counterattack carried the sense that another goal was imminent. Berlin appeared disoriented, struggling to find answers as the visitors dictated the tempo and rhythm of play, and a lopsided result seemed well within reach.

Refusing to fold, FC Berlin slowly but surely found their footing. The response came through debutant April Syme, followed by goals from Hope Windebank—who would go on to be named FC Berlin’s Player of the Game—and league top scorer Ally Rowe. That surge brought Berlin right back into contention, cutting the deficit to a single goal. Detroit still held a narrow 4–3 advantage at halftime, largely thanks to an outstanding performance by goalkeeper Kerstyn Williams, who produced a series of spectacular saves to preserve the lead.

The complexion of the match changed dramatically after the break. Berlin ramped up the pressure, pressed higher, and began to tilt the field in their favour. The equalizer arrived before the end of the third period, yet Williams once again stood tall, keeping the score level at 5–5 after 45 minutes with what can only be described as an extraordinary display between the posts. For Berlin, Windebank continued to shine, while Olivia Rizakos—playing her first game of the season—made an immediate impact with two goals and three assists. Angelika Mihalopulos was also instrumental, registering two assists and helping drive Berlin’s attacking momentum.

What followed in the final period was nothing short of unforgettable. Despite having already endured 45 minutes of fast, physical, high-intensity soccer, both teams somehow found another gear. Chances came in waves, and goalkeepers Sarah-Anisha Bradbury and Kerstyn Williams were under constant siege, delighting the crowd with a flurry of remarkable saves. Detroit briefly broke through Berlin’s defensive wall via Kayla Addison and later on via Hannah Crum, but the night ultimately belonged to the home side.

Berlin exploded for five goals in the last period, finding the back of the net through Brianne Desa, Olivia Rizakos twice more, Alessia Da Silva with an absolute golazo, and Alliyah Rowe. As the final seconds ticked away, Berlin calmly kept possession, waiting for the horn to sound and unleash a celebration worthy of the occasion.

It was a monumental victory for FC Berlin, achieved against a Detroit City FC side that went a perfect 10–0 in last season’s regular campaign, only to fall in the championship game to eventual champions Chihuahua Savage. History was made, belief was reinforced, and a statement was sent across the league.

The story is far from over. These two teams will meet again next Saturday in what promises to be another blockbuster, as Detroit City FC hosts their highly anticipated home opener at the Detroit City Fieldhouse. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM EST, and if this first chapter is any indication, the rematch will be must-see arena soccer.
