What a discouraging evening for our young ladies! Berlin dominated and had many chances to put this game away but failed to finish and ended up paying a very steep price. The game started very promisingly for our team as #20 Tegan Morrison took advantage of a big defensive misplay and calmly scored the 1-0 when we still were within the first minute of play. That would prove to be a very brief moment of happiness, as the home team tied the game just a minute and a half later! Berlin had to start all over again...
Fast forward to the 28th minute, and Berlin gets their reward. Tegan Morrison takes a corner kick and Samantha Murphy connects beautifully to send the ball to the back of the net. It was 2-1 for Berlin and that was the score going into the halftime break.
Berlin tried to put the game away earlier into the second half and they were very close to doing so. However, the ladies could not get the much-needed goal (they had many incredible chances) and like it often happens, Pittsburgh found one chance and they didn't miss. A very unfair score at that point, but that's soccer for you.
The game languished with chances for both teams but that were decreasing in dangerousness. The final whistle found two very disappointed teams: Berlin, knowing that they should have won it, and Hotspurs, frustrated for not having won their first-ever home game.
Action for Berlin continues tomorrow, as they will play against Erie Commodores at SUNY - Coyer Field.
