Marisa Oliveira: Creativity, confidence, and a nose for goal

Marisa Oliveira: Creativity, confidence, and a nose for goal

Gabriel Almada16 Mar - 15:00

The technically gifted attacker brings flair, intelligence, and finishing ability to FC Berlin in the MASL-W

Among the players adding creativity and attacking spark to FC Berlin this season is Marisa Oliveira, a technically gifted forward whose ability to read the game and finish chances has made her a valuable piece of Berlin’s offensive puzzle. Comfortable on the ball and confident in tight spaces, Oliveira brings the kind of composure and imagination that indoor soccer rewards.

Oliveira’s journey through the Ontario soccer landscape has included several competitive environments. She spent time with FC London and Electric City FC in League1 Ontario, where she demonstrated her attacking instincts by scoring five goals in fifteen matches during the 2023 campaign. More recently, she has continued to develop her game with Guelph United FC and Waterloo United in the Ontario Premier League, gaining valuable experience in another competitive setting.

Now wearing FC Berlin colours, Oliveira brings that same attacking mindset into the indoor game. Her combination of quick decision making, technical ability, and eye for goal fits naturally within Berlin’s fast-paced style. Whether creating chances for teammates or finishing them herself, she represents another dangerous option for a team determined to leave its mark in the league’s early history.

What first attracted you to the opportunity to play for FC Berlin in the MASL-W?
The fast pace and the physical part of the game. Also, of course being a part of the first Canadian team.

You have played for clubs such as FC London, Guelph United, Electric City, and Waterloo United; how have those experiences shaped you as a player?
Playing for each of these clubs shared one important commonality: the distinct playing styles introduced by their coaches. Every coach influenced my development in different ways. Some experiences pushed me forward immediately, while others challenged me and required growth. In the end, each of those moments helped me overcome obstacles and become a stronger, more complete player.

I am also incredibly grateful to all the players I have met along the way. Every team I’ve been part of has been filled with talented, dedicated women who brought so much skill and passion to the game. I feel very fortunate to have shared the field with such amazing teammates.

What has been the biggest adjustment moving from outdoor soccer into the indoor game?
The biggest adjustment must be the conditioning. It is such a fast-paced crazy game that I absolutely love but the back and forth is not for the weak. Different fitness from outdoor.

How would you describe your playing style to fans who are seeing you for the first time?
I do enjoy being a target player due to my big build. I can hold the ball off and lay it to my teammates coming up the field or turn myself while holding a player off.

This season has been historic for FC Berlin; what has it been like to be part of the club’s first MASL-W campaign?
It has been magical. The girls they have brought in have now turned into my best friends off the pitch and I would die for them on the pitch as well. For us to go this far in our first season I am so beyond excited to see what we can do at Nationals.

What are your personal goals as a player for the rest of the season?
Confidence and consistency. I think if I can keep those up, I can help my team go further at Nationals.
