Hope Windebank: From Club Excellence to International Recognition

Gabriel Almada31 Dec 2025 - 16:00

The FC Berlin winger continues to make her mark at both the club and international levels

Last weekend, Hope Windebank was named Player of the Match in FC Berlin’s statement performance against MASL-W powerhouse Detroit City FC, a fitting recognition for a player whose influence is felt all over the pitch.

A dynamic winger known for her pace, creativity, and relentless work rate, Windebank brings championship pedigree and consistency to FC Berlin. Her ability to impact the game in the final third—while also contributing defensively—has made her a key asset to the squad. Before joining Berlin, Hope featured for Pickering FC in League1 Ontario, where she further cemented her reputation as one of the league’s standout performers.

Her résumé speaks for itself. Windebank was part of the League1 Ontario Premier Division Championship-winning team in 2023, earned OUA Second Team All-Star honours in 2022, and was named Most Valuable Player at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2022. These achievements reflect not only her technical quality but also her leadership and competitive edge.

Beyond her club success, Hope has recently reached a major milestone in her career, earning her first starting XI cap with the Guyana National Women’s Soccer Team. The honour represents the realization of a lifelong dream and adds an international chapter to an already impressive journey—one defined by perseverance, belief, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

What does representing Guyana at the international level mean to you, both personally and professionally?
Representing Guyana at the international level has been one of the most meaningful moments of my life. I always dreamed of playing on the international stage and proving to myself that hard work, dedication, and belief can turn a childhood dream into reality.

Can you take us back to your senior national team debut and what that experience was like for you?
I made my senior debut in 2024 during the Gold Cup preliminary match in California, playing 45 minutes, and earned my second cap in 2025 in a World Cup qualifying match against Nicaragua in Guyana, where I had the honour of making my first start with the senior national team. It was a surreal moment, and I felt very honoured to wear the crest.

When you put on the national team jersey, what emotions or sense of responsibility come with it?
Every time I put on the jersey, I feel a sense of community, love, and support, and it reminds me how proud I am to be part of something so special.

Who have been the biggest influences and supporters throughout your journey to the international stage?
I couldn’t have done it without my mom — she has been my biggest supporter and has continually pushed me to reach bigger goals.

What message do you hope your story sends to young girls who dream of playing soccer at the highest level?
I hope my journey shows young girls that no dream is too big and that with hard work, belief, and perseverance, anything is possible.
