Bukkets abroad: Brianne Desa shines for FC Berlin and answers Guyana’s call

The Guyana WNT captain heads South for a pivotal FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying double-header

Brianne Desa has steadily built a reputation as one of Guyana’s most influential footballers, combining composure, creativity, and leadership at both club and international level. Currently competing with FC Berlin, Desa also captains the Guyana Women's National Team, where she has become a central figure in the program’s recent growth. Whether orchestrating play from midfield or stepping up in decisive moments, she embodies the confidence and professionalism of a player comfortable on big stages.

Born in Pickering and representing Guyana through her heritage, Desa’s journey reflects both her Canadian development pathway and her Caribbean pride. She sharpened her game in Canada’s competitive environment, featuring in League1 Ontario before transitioning into the fast-paced world of arena soccer with FC Berlin in the Major Arena Soccer League Women. Across formats, her technical quality and tactical awareness have remained defining traits.

Internationally, Desa has been instrumental in Guyana’s campaigns, including key appearances during qualification runs toward tournaments such as the CONCACAF W Gold Cup. As the National Team's captain, she not only drives standards on the pitch but also represents the voice and vision of the Lady Jags program. Still in the prime of her career, Brianne Desa continues to elevate both club and country, proving that leadership and impact often go hand in hand.

“Bukkets,” as she is affectionately known among family, teammates and friends, has also taken the Major Arena Soccer League Women by storm. In just four games with FC Berlin, Brianne Desa has tallied an impressive 10 goals and 2 assists, averaging 3.0 points per game — a mark that places her among the league’s top five producers. Her attacking instincts, sharp movement, and composure in front of goal have made her an immediate difference-maker in Berlin’s indoor campaign.

Unfortunately for Berlin supporters, Desa will miss the next couple of matches as she returns to international duty with the Guyana Women's National Team for a crucial FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying double-header. Guyana is set to host Dominica on February 27th before travelling to face Antigua and Barbuda on March 5th. The fixtures represent another important step in the Lady Jags’ pursuit of a historic berth on the world stage.

When asked what it means to represent her country of heritage, Desa shared heartfelt reflections: “Representing Guyana at the international level has been an incredibly special and humbling experience for me. Wearing the national jersey and playing for my country is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid, and it never gets old. My first goal with the National Team is a moment I’ll always remember! I earned my first cap at 17 years old and scored 14 minutes into the match to tie the game for Guyana. It was such a surreal feeling and really set the tone for my journey with the team. I’ve been with the National Team since 2018 now and have earned over 20 caps, with so many unforgettable memories along the way.”

Although her presence will be missed next weekend, the entire Berlin family stands proudly behind Desa and her teammates — Hope Windebank and Kristen Bettencourt — as they head South chasing the dream of competing at the world’s biggest sporting event.
