This weekend, FC Berlin will be without two of its brightest talents (Brianne Desa and Hope Windebank) as the duo travelled to Georgetown, Guyana for a critical FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture. Both players have been called up to represent the Guyana Women’s National Team in their match against Dominica tomorrow, February 28th.
Leaders on and off the pitch
Brianne Desa, who captains the Guyana women’s side, has been a standout performer for FC Berlin both indoors and on the international stage. Born in Pickering, Ontario, she progressed through the Canadian youth system before becoming a key figure for Guyana’s senior national team. Desa brings leadership, creativity, and experience in midfield — qualities that have earned her over 20 caps for the Lady Jags.
Meanwhile, Hope Windebank has also made significant strides in her career. Known for her pace, creativity, and hard work on the flank, Windebank has been an influential winger for FC Berlin and has recently broken into the Guyana senior squad, earning her first starts in World Cup qualifying. Representing her heritage on the international level has been a personal milestone, and this week’s call-up underscores her continuing rise.
Kristen Bettencourt, the remaining FC Berlin player who is currently part of the Guyana Women's National Team roster, will not be joining the team for these games.
Guyana’s recent form
Guyana enters tomorrow’s game looking to bounce back after their previous Women’s World Cup qualifying match, where they suffered a 1–3 defeat to Nicaragua. The loss, which came in late 2025, saw Guyana concede three times after taking an early lead — a result that highlighted both promise and areas for improvement as they chase qualification.
Following tomorrow’s match, the Lady Jags will head to face Antigua and Barbuda on March 5th in what promises to be another tough test in the Concacaf qualifying campaign.
We’ll miss them this weekend!
While FC Berlin will miss Desa and Windebank for the club’s doubleheader this weekend, we are very proud to see our players represent Guyana on the world stage. Their experience and leadership will be crucial as the Lady Jags look to make a statement in their quest for World Cup qualification.
