Two players from FC Berlin will once again take the international stage today, as Hope Windebank and Brianne Desa suit up for the Guyana women's national football team in a crucial 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup qualification (CONCACAF) match against the Antigua & Barbuda Women's National Team.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM EST at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, with the match available live on the CONCACAF YouTube channel.
The match represents another important step in the Lady Jags’ qualifying campaign. Guyana opened the group stage with a 3–1 defeat to Nicaragua, but bounced back impressively last Friday with a 3–0 home victory over Dominica. With points now on the board, tonight’s match in Antigua could play a key role in building momentum as the group stage continues.
Windebank and Desa have both been important pieces of the national team setup as Guyana looks to keep its World Cup hopes alive. A dynamic winger, Hope Windebank has become a key contributor for FC Berlin thanks to her pace, creativity, and relentless work rate on both sides of the ball. Before joining Berlin, she built an impressive résumé that includes a 2023 Ontario Premier League Championship, OUA Second Team All-Star honours, and the Most Valuable Player award at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2022. Her rise continued when she earned her first start for the Guyana senior national team in World Cup qualifying.
Desa, meanwhile, brings leadership and experience to both club and country. The Pickering, ON native serves as captain of the Guyana national team and has been part of the program since 2018, earning more than 20 international caps. A technically gifted midfielder with strong attacking instincts, she has made an immediate impact in the Major Arena Soccer League Women (MASL-W) with FC Berlin, tallying 10 goals and 2 assists in just four games, placing her among the league’s most productive players.
Both players say the journey with the national team has been an exciting and meaningful experience.
“For the past week and a half, we’ve been competing in the second and third rounds of qualifiers. Last Friday, we played Dominica in Guyana and came away with a 3–0 win, which was a great result for the team. We then travelled to Antigua, where we’re playing Antigua and Barbuda today, hoping to secure another win and continue building momentum,” they said.
Their qualifying campaign will continue later this spring, with one of the toughest tests still to come.
“Our final match of this qualifying window will be in April when we face Jamaica, which will be a big one for us. It’s been an exciting journey so far, and we’re proud to represent Guyana while pushing for that World Cup dream.”
With FC Berlin supporters following closely from home, Windebank and Desa will look to help the Lady Jags secure another positive result tonight as Guyana continues its pursuit of a historic place at the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.
