Few positions in soccer require as much intelligence and composure as the midfield. It is the engine room of the team; the place where attacks begin, defensive pressure is absorbed, and the rhythm of the game is dictated. For FC Berlin, Angelika Mihalopulos brings exactly that type of presence to the pitch.
Originally from London, Ontario, Mihalopulos built her foundation in the university game with the Western Mustangs women's soccer program, where she earned recognition as an OUA First-Team All-Star during her collegiate career. Known for her ability to read the game and distribute the ball effectively, she developed into a dependable midfield organizer who could both disrupt opponents and initiate attacking sequences.
Her journey has also taken her overseas. Mihalopulos spent time playing professionally in Greece with AEL FC Women in the Greek Women’s Alpha Division, starting regularly and helping the club secure a fourth-place finish in the top tier of Greek women’s football.
Back in Canada, she continued to establish herself in the competitive landscape of League1 Ontario and beyond. She logged significant minutes with Electric City FC, where she quickly became a key part of the midfield structure thanks to her work rate, tactical awareness, and ability to play out of pressure. Later she joined Guelph United FC, bringing leadership and experience to the squad.
With a résumé that spans university honours, international professional experience, and high-level competition in Ontario, Mihalopulos arrives at FC Berlin as a player who understands the game deeply. Calm under pressure and relentless in her defensive work, she represents the type of seasoned competitor who can steady a team while still pushing it forward.
You grew up in London, Ontario. How did your soccer journey begin, and who influenced you most in the early years?
Soccer has been a big part of my entire life. As a kid I spent endless hours in the backyard playing with my dad, and trying to keep up with my two older brothers and cousins.
My biggest influence when it comes to soccer is definitely my dad. I grew up watching him play and it was his passion that made me fall in love with the game. There were very few games my parents missed, and at the age of 32 they still make it out to almost all my games!
Coaches often praise your composure and defensive work in midfield. How would you personally describe your playing style?
I would say I am calm, disciplined, and reliable. I like bringing stability to the midfield and doing the work that helps the team stay organized. I take pride in reading the game well and connecting play. I will always make it a point to be one of the hardest working players on the field.
What do you think are the most important qualities for a central midfielder?
Awareness is a big one. You have to be able to read the game and make good decisions when things are happening quickly. Composure is huge too, along with discipline. It is one of those positions where you really have to be switched on all the time, because you are involved in so much of what the team does.
