All to play for: Berlin hosts Süsserfuss in crucial playoff decider

Gabriel Almada8 Mar - 05:00

A win will send FC Berlin to Nationals in their inaugural MASL-W season

FC Berlin returns to action this afternoon in a pivotal clash against Süsserfuss Ballveiren, with kickoff set for 12:00 PM EST at the Scarborough Soccer Centre. For Berlin, the stakes could hardly be higher: a victory would secure a postseason berth and send the club to the MASL-W Nationals in what has already been a remarkable debut campaign.

The two sides met just a week ago in Akron, Ohio, in a tightly contested match that showcased the competitiveness between the teams. Berlin battled through adversity to claim an 8–6 road victory, a result that kept their postseason hopes firmly alive and demonstrated the resilience that has defined the squad throughout the season.

That result was part of a strong run of form for Berlin, who also produced a dominant performance against the Youngstown Nighthawks shortly afterwards, putting themselves within touching distance of the playoffs in their first year competing in the MASL-W.

However, today’s encounter promises to be another challenging test. Both clubs will enter the match with reduced rosters due to travel commitments and injuries. Despite the limited squad size, head coach Santiago Almada will still have a determined group of players ready to battle in front of friends, fans, and family.

Berlin’s lineup for today’s match includes:

  • 0 - Sarah-Anisha Bradbury
  • 1 - Hunter Jones
  • 2 - Emily Porteous
  • 3 - Jasmine Burke
  • 5 - Alessia Da Silva
  • 6 - Samantha Murphy
  • 11 - Hope Windebank
  • 12 - Alliyah Rowe
  • 14 - Nicole Mailloux
  • 16 - Kristen Bettencourt
  • 22 - April Syme
  • 44 - Brianne Desa

Süsserfuss Ballveiren's coach Richard Milford has the following players available for today:

  • 1 - Annabelle Hegeman
  • 2 - Mayra Sesmas-Mondragón
  • 4 - Camryn Emerling
  • 6 - Faith Estes
  • 9 - Allison Herbert
  • 15 - Elizabeth Semenec
  • 19 - Briana Garey
  • 20 - Kate Mauch
  • 21 - Molly Murphy
  • 26 - Tatum Bradely
  • 34 - Brooke Garey

Even with a short bench, Berlin has shown all season that determination and teamwork can overcome adversity. The squad features experienced leaders such as Nicole Mailloux, Samantha Murphy and Hope Windebank, along with emerging contributors who have stepped up in key moments throughout the campaign.

For Berlin, the equation is simple. A win this afternoon would not only cap an impressive regular season but also send the club to the MASL-W Nationals in its first year in the league, a remarkable achievement for a Canadian club making its debut on the North American arena soccer stage.

With everything on the line and a postseason berth within reach, FC Berlin will look to rise to the moment once again and deliver a performance worthy of the occasion.

The game will be streamed live on YouTube through our partners and sponsors Cloud North TV.
