FC Berlin and Ancaster FC finally got to play the game that had been postponed a week before, due to some vandalism at the field. Like in most games in the recent past, Berlin struggled with numbers and had exactly 11 players available, with many playing in a position unfamiliar to them.
The game did not start well for our team, as Ancaster struck immediately after kick-off and was 2-0 up within seven minutes. Berlin felt the impact but our guys lowered their heads and began to push hard. The effort paid off, as Freddy Gudmundsson scored in the 21st minute and Alessandro Naccarato tied the game just before the halftime break. Unfortunately, striker Liam Flood got injured a few minutes before the equalizer and had to leave the field, leaving FC Berlin with 10 players for the remainder of the game.
The second half saw our team making an impressive effort to take the lead. Forced to play in a 4-4-1 formation, our guys generated chance after chance and were close to scoring again, despite the challenges. The bad news kept coming: Spencer Eisses was also injured so he donned the gloves and played goalkeeper during the second half, something that he did as aptly as when he was in the defensive line.
Berlin would end up regretting those missed chances. In the last five minutes of the game, two quick counters by Ancaster were translated into as many goals, and the visiting squad picked up a victory that felt like an injustice.
Many players had standout performances, but the Player of the Match award went to Derek Goud, who had a stellar performance as a centre-back.
