Berlin FA had a very strong game against the undefeated Georgetown team. Our young ladies dominated the actions for most of the game and outshot their opponents by almost double, but just could not put the ball in the net.
After 20 minutes of Berlin pushing and pushing without any results, Georgetown found their opening goal on the very first chance they had. Dismayed, but still focused, our girls renewed the attack but could not equalize in spite of the many good chances they had.
The second half was more of the same. After a couple of close calls, Georgetown found themselves 2-0 up after an own goal following a corner kick. Berlin FA quickly got on the board thanks to a goal by Maeva Lichtensteiger, who converted after having been assisted by Eva D'Andrea. With the score 1-2, Berlin went all in; now playing with three strikers, the chances kept coming but it felt like there was no way that the girls were going to get that second goal.
A penalty kick and a defensive blooper, both in the dying minutes of the game, put an end to Berlin's hopes and this way Georgetown went back home with a 4-1 win in their pockets. Our players stayed on the field, shaking their heads in disbelieve. It was really discouraging to have lost that way, after such a strong performance!
Player of the game went to Eva D'Andrea, who had an outstanding game playing as a wing, and to Maeva Lichtensteiger, who had a nice goal and played great overall.
On to the next one, ladies!!
