Cedars rescues a point at the very last minute and prevents Berlin from taking 1st place

Berlin had a fine showing against division leaders Cedars FC on Sunday. Led by a strong performance by midfielder Marko Acimovic and with a Ryley Wishart that seemed to be unstoppable, the home team was definitely in control during the first half and few were surprised when Wesley Cain connected with a header a ball crossed by Wishart and opened the score. Berlin had a few more chances during the rest of the first half, but failed to get that second goal that could bring a little peace of mind.

Things weren't much different in the second period. Berlin continued to dictate the flow of play, but as Cedars players began to gain composure and even the play, it was time for the home team to bring some fresher legs into the pitch. Nicko Linares, Aiden Sadeghi and Santiago Almada added their usual intensity, but Berlin was still unable to put the game away. Little by little, the visitors began to roam around Svyatoslav Artemenko's 18 yards, but the Berlin keeper seemed to be on top of things.

Unfortunately, and this is a soccer axiom, you always end up regretting the missed opportunities once the final whistle is blown. After a blocked shot and when it looked like the following play was going to prove to be inconsequential, a Cedars FC player was taken down in the box and a penalty was subsequently awarded to them. Papa Diaw did not hesitate and scored the equalizer in the 91st minute of play.

As mentioned, it was an extremely disappointing outcome for FC Berlin, that clearly deserved better luck.

The next game for the 'Bad Boys' is on Thursday, Sep 29th, when they will host Chantilly Forever SC in Kitchener, in what will be the first-ever Canadian Derby in the UPSL Midwest Division.
Cedars FC, on the other hand, will play on Saturday, Oct 1st, against Detroit United in what will be their second "First vs Second" game in a row.

Player of the match award goes to Ryley Wishart, who had a spectacular performance
