Berlin Academy 2003 lose their first game on the road
By Gabriel Almada
Our guys played with grit and determination, but could not solve the Supernova FC puzzle once again.
It was a late evening game for our boys, who showed up at a very wet field, but still in very good conditions. We only had 11 players available, due to injuries and suspensions, and that included three call up players that had already had one game that day (and that had played all 90 minutes of it).
Supernova FC took the lead within the first minute, and they doubled the score just 15 minutes later, through an unfortunate play that saw one of our defenders changing the direction of the ball and making Eddy Garcia's effort fruitless. Our guys slowly regained composure and began to push. We had a few good changes, a free kick by Nydan Luckhai and two breakaways by Nick Bailey, but we couldn't get one goal back. Supernova ended scoring once again right before the first half finished.
The second half looked ominous, as Supernova scored again and our guys were looking really tired already. However, the last 40 minutes of the game saw our team emerge with incredible determination and pride, take control of the actions and begin to push and push toward the opponent's net. With just 15 minutes to go, Sebastian Fernandez MacGregor sent a long ball to our striker Nick Bailey, who took a formidable shot from outside the 18 yards, that flew over the keeper's head and into the top corner of the net. An outstanding goal and a good reward for a great second half.
Berlin FA ended outshooting the opponent in the second half, and could have even gotten another goal to end the evening. The final score was 1-4, but we might have witnessed the resurgence of a team that has lots to show, and it's planning on doing that right now.
We commend our boys for the effort put on this game. We will break this curse very soon, boys!
Shaun Grubb was selected the Player of the Match, he had an incredible performance. Great job by Sebastian Fernandez, Eddy Garcia, Nydan Luckhai and Ben Battler, among others.
